One person builds it, start to finish.

Software for UK businesses. No account managers, no handoffs, no junior doing the work.

What you get

  • Costed before I start

A fixed price where the job is clear. Where it is not, an agreed rate and an honest estimate.

  • You own all of it

Everything sits in your name and your accounts from day one. Nothing is held hostage.

  • An answer either way

If I am not right for the job I will say so on the first call, and point you somewhere better.

Before Pennine Digital

Fifteen years as a developer, mostly on apps used by people who never think about who built them.

  • Sky Bet

Senior Android and iOS Developer · Jul 2023 to Sep 2025

Kept two apps, Super6 and iTV7, running smoothly for a large number of customers. Found and fixed problems in code that had built up over several years, keeping everything within the rules of a heavily regulated industry.

  • Pets at Home

Senior Android and iOS Developer, contract · May 2022 to Apr 2023

Took over a partly built app from a large consultancy and got it finished and released, then kept a high-traffic app running smoothly afterwards.

“A true expert in his field - a fully rounded developer demonstrating skills across both Android and iOS.”

Richard Ogden, Head of Software Delivery, Pets at Home
  • Hermes (now Evri)

Senior Android Developer · Oct 2017 to Jan 2022

Led the app used to print parcel labels in store, and built a system that let its behaviour be updated remotely without pushing a full update to every device. It ran on more than 5,000 devices across Parcel Shops and Tesco stores, handling millions of transactions a year including Amazon returns.

“Consistently impressed with technical skill, attention to detail and commitment.”

    Paul Ottley, Product Owner, Hermes

What I do

Web applications

The system your business runs on, or the one your customers use. Built to hold up on a real day, not just in the demo.

Apps for phones

For when your customers need you in their pocket rather than in a browser tab. iPhone, Android, or both.

Getting your systems talking

Your orders, your stock and your accounts stop disagreeing with each other, and stop needing someone to retype things.

A second opinion

Before you commit to something expensive, a straight read on whether it is the right call and what it will really take.

Proving an idea first

Build the smallest version real customers can actually use, and find out what they think before you spend the rest.

Where most projects start

  • You’re keeping the business running in a spreadsheet that only makes sense to you.
  • Every new order means retyping the same information into two or three places.
  • The tool nearly does what you need, and “nearly” is costing you hours every week.
  • You know exactly what you’d build if you had a developer on hand. You don’t.

Why one person is the feature

Nobody tells you that the person who knows that bit is on holiday. You talk to the person doing the work, because it is the same person.

I spent years in agencies, startups and big corporates watching good work stall in the gap between designers, account managers and junior devs. Pennine Digital is the opposite of that: one experienced developer, start to finish, from the first conversation to the day it goes live.

Based in Barnsley. Working with clients across the UK and further out.

How a project runs

  1. Discovery call

Tell me what you need. You come away knowing whether it is worth building, roughly how long it will take, and what it will cost.

  2. Build

You get an update every week and something you can actually click on, not a progress report. You never have to wonder what I have been doing with your money.

  3. Launch and support

It goes live, I keep an eye on it, and everything is written down properly. I am still here afterwards for the things that always come up.

What it costs

  1. 1

    A conversation first

We talk about what you need. No cost, no obligation, and you’ll know by the end whether it is worth building.

  2. 2

    A fixed price, agreed upfront

Once the job is clear, you get one number before I start. Not an estimate that grows once you are committed.

  3. 3

    Support if you want it

Most projects need the odd thing checked or changed after launch. Say how much of that you want and it is agreed as a simple ongoing rate, not a surprise invoice.

Questions I get asked

How do you charge?

You get the number after the first call, never before it. A price quoted before I understand the job is a guess with a decimal point on it, and it is always the client who pays for that guess being wrong. See what it costs above for the full breakdown.

What happens if you are unavailable?

It is the fair question to ask anyone working on their own. I write everything down as I go rather than at the end, so another developer could pick it up on Monday and carry on, instead of quoting you for a rebuild.

Can you work alongside my existing team?

Yes, no problem. I can take a defined slice of the work, sit in on your meetings if that helps, and look over your team's work if you want a second pair of experienced eyes on it.

What do you not do?

Brand and marketing design. I have got an eye for design and can make your product look professional, but I'm certainly not a specialist graphic designer or branding guru.

Do you work in person?

Remote by default, which works for most projects. I am in Barnsley, so Sheffield, Leeds and Manchester are a short trip away if a kickoff is better done face to face.

Let’s talk about your project

Tell me what you are trying to do, and I will tell you what it would take to do it.

I reply to everything, usually within a working day.

A paragraph is plenty. Rough ideas are welcome.
